After the Netherlands, the region of Flanders is the second most vulnerable to flooding as a result of rising sea levels. The question arises how long the Flemish coast can continue to exist in its current form. Should the famous Atlantic Wall, the never ending row of apartment buildings along the coast, give way to nature again? A controversial decision no policy maker wants to make.
Van alle Europese regio's is Vlaanderen, na Nederland, het meest kwetsbaar voor overstromingen als gevolg van de steeds sneller stijgende zeespiegel. Als gevolg daarvan zal onze kust er eind deze eeuw waarschijnlijk anders uitzien. Hoewel niemand kan voorspellen hoe drastisch die metamorfose zal zijn, zegt STIF nu reeds vaarwel. Fotograaf Geert Huysman reist in 2021 de volledige Vlaamse kust af en maakt een portret van een regio die, in de huidige vorm, ongemerkt aan haar zwanenzang is begonnen.
